RSPA INSPIRE 2015: Heath Says Channel Leaders Need To Find "Bright Spots"

By Jim Roddy, VP of Marketing, RSPA

If it’s true that great conference speakers cause the attendees to act constructively, then Chip Heath, the featured presenter at the RSPA INSPIRE 2015 Conference in Maui, HI, has proven to be a great speaker. Many of the 100+ channel executives attending this conference said Heath has taught them principles and actions they told me they will implement at their businesses.
I wanted to take a positive step as well and follow Heath’s advice about “bright spots.” Heath says the concept of bright spots means to “find the thing that worked for you and try to do it again.” The job for leaders, Heath said, is to find the bright spots and scale them throughout your organization.
I wanted to share with you four solutions provider bright spots in the retail IT channel. (Note: I would have listed more, but Heath said yesterday when talking about decision making that if you provide too many choices, it can be paralyzing.)
- 5 Ways To Future-Proof Your POS Business — Lynn Skura, Skurla’s POS Solutions in Anchorage, AK
- Deliver The Mobile Experience From Inception To Retirement — Aaron Hagler, Tolt Solutions in Taylors, SC
- VAR Best Practices For Rebranding Your Company — Jason Cowan, Spark Solutions Group in Salt Lake City, UT
- Break Out Of Paltry POS Sales — Kory Lindersmith and Lonnie Ladwig, Dakota Retail Technologies in Sioux Falls, SD
In addition to all being bright spots in the channel, each of these solutions providers are RSPA members. These VARs accomplished quite a bit on their own, but they also have relied on the collective power of the RSPA to improve their knowledge and connections.
Skurla said it well: “I love learning, and I try to create a work environment that encourages lifelong learning, which is why I rely heavily on the RSPA and the RSPA community to keep that learning process going and helping my employees and my business grow.”
You know there’s a bright sun here in Maui, but there are also bright spots the rest of the retail IT channel can learn from.
