Here's A New Resource For Healthcare VARs (and Wannabees)

The healthcare vertical. If you’re not selling into this space, you wish you were. If you do sell into the vertical, you want to sell more. I’m very excited to announce that, in addition to our Channel Transitions events this year, Business Solutions has partnered with value-added distributor ScanSource to produce two Smart VAR Healthcare Summits. The goal is to provide inside information on the channel’s fastest growing vertical for VARs already engaged in healthcare and those considering entering the market.

This market can be quite lucrative for VARs, but getting in and then maximizing your earning potential can be a challenge. These summits will fill you in on the most significant trends, opportunities, and mistakes to avoid. Additionally, what I’m really excited about, we’ll be providing inside advice from healthcare CIOs about what they need and the challenges they face. That’s information on which you can take action!

The first Summit is May 6 in New Brunswick, NJ and the second is Aug. 21 in Chicago. More details will be forthcoming.

How about some actionable information on healthcare right now? We recently spoke with Kevin Torner, executive VP of technology for VAR Erb’s Technology Solutions about their experience in the healthcare vertical. More specifically, we asked Torner to identify what he sees as the top three IT needs for hospitals right now.

  1. BYOD and the consumerization of IT — “We closely consult with our clients to address connectivity, usability, security, application compatibility, manageability, and tracking. We partner with vendors like HP, Lenovo, Motorola, Cisco, Samsung, Cradle Point, Intel and other point products to provide a seamless end-to-end solution,” he says.
  2. Converged Infrastructure — “Hospitals are faced with huge data, networking, and computing requirements to provide 99.99999 percent uptime to EHR and mission critical systems,” he explains. “We typically lead with HP solutions in this area and combine internal Solutions Architects and Engineers with OEM Services to provide proven best of breed design, implementation and support solutions.”
  3. Managed Print/ Document Management — Torner says that healthcare facilities are mandating cost reduction strategies. “We work with our clients to assess their current output environments and then consult and design their environments to ensure all printing and scanning is optimized, secure, and managed,” he says. “Typically, this includes hybrid cloud storage and access to documents, web-based monitoring, reporting and troubleshooting, help desk integration, and automatic supplies fulfillment.”
