When it comes to cloud computing, many VARs and MSPs (managed services providers) I talk to have an almost passive approach. They understand the benefits of the cloud. They and their customers have some applications in the cloud. But they certainly haven’t made the cloud a part of their business plan or core offering.

Maybe it’s because the term “cloud” was so generically used and overused for so long. It was a little overhyped in some ways. Maybe it’s because these solutions providers are having trouble seeing just where the opportunities exist. If I told you that cloud computing usage was on the rise, you wouldn’t be surprised. But exactly how much it has risen and in what applications hasn’t been so clear.
