At the Smart VAR Healthcare Summit held on May 6 in New Brunswick, NJ, Andy Tippet, Healthcare Practice Lead for Zebra Technologies, North America, demonstrates a part of Zebra’s mobile specimen collection solution set — which allows for immediate specimen label printing as the medical professional collects specimens and moves from room to room.

He also spoke during a breakout session at the summit, explaining to VARs in attendance that bar coding is “the bridge between EHR (electronic health records) and the patient.” He says the technology also serves as another bridge — capturing data for analysis. He quoted a 2012 IBM study that revealed healthcare can use help in this area: the top obstacle to analytics adoption was the inability to collect the data. He also discussed facets of the healthcare industry today, including the nursing shortage. He said the industry has a need to be able to do more with less. He asked VARs at the summit, “Can you create a way to help your clients do more with less?”

The first-of-its-kind Smart VAR Healthcare Summit featured news on the latest trends in the healthcare vertical, secrets from successful healthcare VARs, and VAR opportunities in healthcare. The one-day event gave VARs the opportunity to meet colleagues and connect with healthcare channel leaders, learn about new channel services, and meet vendors.

Smart VAR Healthcare Summits, powered by ScanSource and Business Solutions, are sponsored by: Motorola, Honeywell, Datalogic, and Zebra. A second Smart VAR Healthcare Summit will be held in Chicago this August.
