While there are certainly upsides of changing vendors, the process can be a hassle. If an ISV is considering changing payment providers, there are up-front actions that can be taken to alleviate the stress of the process and ensure a seamless transition for your software’s customers. Dan Viscount — SVP and Co-General Manager, IPOS Division at EVO — recently spoke with The Business Solutions Network this and more.

Q: What potential challenges, interruptions to service, and customer issues could switch payment providers cause for an ISV? What does your company do to alleviate these potential headaches?

Viscount: The ISV and the card processing partner need to be well aligned. The areas to watch are the set-up instructions from the card processor, loaded/tested EMV equipment, Q/A processes with initial boarding (credit, debit, gift, batch times, deposit flow), and finally, education and knowledge of in-store networking.

Q: Are there any security considerations ISVs should know before switching processors to ensure they stay in compliance with all current regulations?

Viscount: This is simple. Always use out-of-scope, PCI-certified integration solutions. The ISV should never touch the card data. In addition, each merchant should go through an annual security scan to prevent any breaches. Most processors mandate compliance or working with third parties to avoid security breaches.
