What Different Types Of EMV Integrations Mean For Software Vendors
By Onur Haytac, CEO, Benseron
As we are coming close to the EMV liability shift, the EMV certification process with the major processors/acquirers is not easing. There is a major backlog and it seems like most of the software vendors are not going to start having full EMV capabilities before the first quarter of 2016.
In the meantime, let’s talk about how many types of integrations software vendors can have. The first one is semi-integration. The software vendor uses a side swipe terminal from a vendor (such as Pax, Verifone, or Ingenico). These terminals already have an EMV reader and the certified kernel where the OS of the terminal holds the payload. Therefore, your software only needs to send the balance of the check, and the payment authorization is done by the terminal. This way, a software vendor can integrate the EMV device in no time and by using an external device, which holds the payload specs, it will also remove your software from the scope of PCI certification.
