North Devon Homes (NDH) is a not-for-profit organisation that serves and manages over 3,100 properties in the North Devon area. A Registered Social Landlord, North Devon Homes was created to take control of the management of previous North Devon District Council properties which were transferred in February 2000, the company is committed and fully invested in providing services to its residents and the continual improvement of homes.
The Challenge
NDH is dedicated to providing the best service possible to its 3,100 properties. To ensure quality service, the organisation relies heavily on stored data and full IT system availability 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Any loss of access to information can be detrimental to the business. Unfortunately, in the event of an unplanned downtime or system failure, network systems administrator, Ben Shirley and his IT team surmised it would take a crippling 48 to 72 hours before recovering to full system availability.
"As an organization that relies heavily on its data and servers for email correspondence, repairs, maintenance, business processes and general customer satisfaction, even one hour of downtime is detrimental," said Shirley. "With 98 employees, one hour translates to 98 hours of non-productivity. As a not-for-profit entrusted with delivering quality services to our residents, we cannot afford any length of downtime."
