Transition To The Recurring Revenue Model

In this installment of BSMtv, Karl Palachuk, owner of Small Biz Thoughts and author of Managed Services in a Month and Managed Services Operations Manual, discusses the as-a-Service business model with Business Solutions president Jim Roddy.

In the interview from the Retail IT VAR Of The Future Conference, May 12 to 13 at Bally’s, Las Vegas, Palachuk said it’s notable that retail IT VARs are interested and excited about the as-a-Service business model and “there are some vendors here who have solutions for them.”

Palachuk says the transition to the recurring revenue business model will be dependent, in part, on new technology. “Everybody will have some recurring revenue,” he predicts. “But there are always new things showing up. Some aren’t going to go to recurring revenue, others will go very quickly.”

He says VARs will need to consider what can best be provided under the recurring revenue model, what can best be provided on an as-needed basis, and what’s combination of that makes the most sense. He adds, “It’s important to maintain flexibility.”
