United Bank Card's Big RetailNOW 2009 Announcement

Also, here is the official press release which UBC issued following the announcement:

Official Press ReleaseUnited Bank Card, Inc. Launches Industry’s First Free ECR Program and Million Dollar Giveaway ContestUnited Bank Card, Inc. (UBC) has announced the release of the industry’s first free electronic cash register (ECR) program. Two different packages, one for retail and one for restaurants, will be offered through the program and both will include integrated PCI secure payment processing.

United Bank Card CEO Jared Isaacman states, “The days of the stand-alone credit card terminal are quickly coming to an end… I am confident that this program will revolutionize the industry in much the same way that our free terminal program did in 2004. We have always had a strong focus on progressive, forward thinking at United Bank Card and this has allowed us to remain innovative throughout our company’s history. Over the past few years, this focus has led us to begin the transition from traditional landline terminals to more integrated systems that enhance the value of our services to more than just ‘rates and fees.’ Our new ECR program continues that shift.”

“This is the first time a truly integrated ECR solution has been available to the payment industry. Historically, cash registers have always been independent from credit card processing, but this program changes that. By offering this high value equipment at no cost, it gives our sales partners a tremendous competitive edge. Every day, thousands of ISOs compete for the finite number of merchants in the country that process credit cards. There are millions of merchants that purchase ECRs each year as well and this program gives our ISO partners access to that vast market which has previously been underserved. The free ECR program literally opens an unexplored market of millions of merchants with virtually zero competition. I firmly believe that this initiative delivers the best sales tool ever offered to the ISO community.”

The restaurant package utilizes a Casio TK 1550 electronic cash register, designed with the most demanding restaurant environments in mind. The retail system will include a Casio TE 1500, developed specifically to accommodate retail merchant locations. Both will also include a cash drawer and backlit customer display. The integrated payment processing will provide credit, debit and gift card functionality, driven by a simple menu display on an LCD screen. This integrated technology is exclusive to United Bank Card.

UBC has established a turnkey back office and deployment center to support these state of the art systems and to make the sales and setup process as simple and easy as possible for both our ISO partners and the merchant. This support infrastructure allows ISOs to simply make the sale and let UBC take care of the rest. Additionally, it ensures that merchants will no longer have to spend hours reading manuals and replacing keys to operate their cash register. Each system will come pre-programmed with an individually customized keyboard layout that they will design through a user-friendly online wizard. Additionally, a dedicated help desk will provide 24/7 customer support to make sure that their cash register is always running properly.

Million Dollar Giveaway

As an exciting incentive to kick off this program, UBC has also announced a $1,000,000 contest! Each deal submitted by one of our eligible sales partners counts as an entry. With the entries capped at 27,000, each entry will be an unprecedented chance at a million dollars. There is no limit to the amount of entries each eligible sales partner can earn over the course of this one year long contest.

United Bank Card CEO Jared Isaacman states “We are very excited about our free ECR program offering. We have spent a lot of time, resources and money to implement such an industry changing program. To celebrate the launch of the program we wanted to come up with something offering the same degree of impact as our free cash register initiative. A contest of this magnitude really captures that. We give away many bonuses to our ISO partners, and we will continue to do so, but a one million dollar contest offers a truly life changing opportunity. To the best of our knowledge, these are the best odds at winning a million dollars ever offered in a contest of this type.”

To dispel any skepticism about the nature of this contest, Isaacman has personally written a letter of guarantee stating that rates and fees will not be raised in order to fund this contest and that UBC’s high level of service will not be compromised due to this influx of merchant accounts. The letter states, “United Bank Card will not implement any new fees or increase rates in order to fund the million dollar prize. During the contest period, no new fees or rate increases will be implemented except for pass-through costs. This includes PCI related fees or any other miscellaneous charges.”

The letter continues, “United Bank Card will uphold the high standards of service we have consistently extended to our merchants since our company’s inception. I guarantee that all of our merchants will continue to receive the highest level of service and that we will not lose any of these accounts due to inadequate support. Over the past few years, we have invested millions of dollars into our support infrastructure in order to effectively handle all inquiries related to cash registers and POS systems. Award winning 24/7 customer service and technical support in addition to our onsite service capabilities further enhance the satisfaction of each of our merchants. We have also recently instituted a new dedicated technical support phone line specifically for our ISO partners who need to escalate or expedite any support issues.”

Additionally, United Bank Card has enlisted an outside law firm, The Lustigman Firm, to ensure the million dollar promotion is structured in a legally compliant manner. An independent auditing firm, Weiser, LLP, has also been hired to audit the contest as well as the results of the drawing.
