TMSSequoia Prizm® Browser-Based Image Viewer Version 6.0 Released
TMSSequoiaT (OTC Bulletin Board: TMSS) today announced the release of the Prizm® plug-in 6.0 for Windows, a browser-based image viewer that includes support for viewing, manipulating, annotating and printing mixed batches of PDF and TIFF or other document image files in Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers. This enables support for Shopping Carts of mixed batch PDF and TIFF files to be viewed, printed and saved. With this new release, users can export TIFF and other image types as PDF files for distribution.
In addition, the Prizm plug-in version 6.0 provides accelerated printing for PostScript Printers, and the ability to save images and PDF files with "burned in" or permanently associated annotations. With over a million end user installations, the Prizm plug-in is the industry leader in document image viewing support for corporate end users, allowing them to annotate, view and print document images seamlessly through Netscape 4.5-4.7X, Netscape 6.2X and above and Internet Explorer 5.01-6.X web browsers on Windows 98/NT/2000 and XP systems.
"Our customers came to us looking for a solution that would allow them to offer integrated PDF support in their web-based Change Order and Dispute Resolution systems. They wanted the ability to view, print and annotate mixed batches of PDF files and image files using the same interface without sacrificing support for extremely large image files and lightning fast display of TIFF images," said Don Jones, TMSSequoia vice president of sales, component products division. "They also wanted increased flexibility for the delivery, printing and display of annotations, which is why we have added the ability to save PDF and document image files locally with their annotation content permanently overlaid or burned into the file."
Accelerated Printing for Postscript Printers
The Prizm plug-in is now optimized for PostScript printing. The viewer's PostScript file is typically far smaller than that generated by the printer driver, resulting in printing times up to 80% faster than previous versions. This acceleration can result in impressive gains in productivity for users printing large volumes of TIFF engineering drawings, especially those who are migrating from a client server imaging system to a web-based imaging system.
In addition, Prizm plug-in version 6.0 now offers segmented printing, the ability to print large engineering drawings across multiple pieces of paper so that the fine detail can be easily seen.
"The Prizm plug-in is the viewer of choice in the Aerospace industry because of the customer driven and comprehensive support we provide for web-based engineering drawing systems," said Elspeth Bloodgood, TMSSequoia product manager. "Our customers have seen very significant direct returns on investment when they moved from paper-based or aperture card based systems to systems with Prizm viewing technology at their core."
Other improvements aimed at making the browser environment user friendly include the ability to set a default paper size for any printer installed on the system. This can be very useful for users wishing to print images on larger paper than typically used with other applications. The Prizm plug-in also now offers Internet Explorer users support for file association preferences, allowing them to choose what image types they want associated with the plug-in.
Netscape 6.2X+ Support
The Prizm plug-in now works with Netscape 6.2X and above. Previous versions of the plug-in were restricted to Netscape 4.5X - 4.7X. Netscape versions 6.0 and 6.1 are not supported with the plug-in.
Optional Support for Roll Form Printers
Roll form printers, also called wide format printers, use continuous rolls of paper of various widths that are cut to the appropriate length by the printer. Companies who opt for roll form printer support will allow their users to choose the width of the paper roll to be used when printing, the plug-in will use that information to correctly size the drawing to make best use of the paper.
Currently users must specify paper length and width when printing to roll form printers. Roll form printing support is available for postscript printers using postscript drivers.
The Prizm plug-in offers unique functionality to companies that provide document images over the Internet. Virtual multipage documents use List Files to allow users the convenience of viewing and printing batches of documents without the overhead of a traditional multi-page TIFF file. The Prizm plug-in version 6.0 supports TIFF single or multi-page images in these formats: uncompressed, modified Huffman, Group 3 1-D & 2-D, Group 4, and PackBits, as well as JPEG, CALS Type 1, PCX, BMP, JEDMICS and PDF normal, PDF Image + text and PDF image only files. Batch printing is supported on corporate intranets as well as secure and authenticated servers. In addition, the Prizm plug-in supports collaboration with a full set of annotation tools, allowing end users to view, edit, print and delete annotations based on permissions.
Support for other platforms
Versions of the Prizm plug-in are available for the Mac and UNIX platforms for those companies who require multiple platform support. The plug-in is supported on five UNIX platforms (Sun Solaris, HP UX, AIX, SGI, and DEC Alpha), where it is generally used in engineering applications due to its unparalleled ability to open large engineering drawings quickly and reliably. Feature sets for the Mac and UNIX platforms are available on the TMSSequoia website at www.tmsinc.com.
