The BYOD Disconnect: Complying With Mobile Device Security At Work
By Cheryl Knight, contributing writer
Businesses are increasingly implementing bring-your-own-device (BYOD) policies at work. These programs encourage employees to use their own smartphones and tablets within the office to help spur productivity — just how secure are these devices?
A Webroot whitepaper presents many surprising facts concerning BYOD policies and the security of mobile devices. The report highlights a growing area of concern for many companies, especially for employees who use their own personal devices at work.
Key Findings
At least 78 percent of employees use their own device at work, while only 12 percent use one provided by their employer. With the use of mobile devices in the workplace driven by BYOD programs, developing a robust data security plan is more important than ever for companies.
Age also plays a key role in determining who is more likely to use mobile devices in the workplace. Employees in the 18-34 age group made up about 50 percent of employees who used devices in the workplace. This was followed closely by employees aged 35 to 44 (40 percent), those 45 to 54 (38 percent), and employees 55 to 64 (26 percent).
