The Best Security Defense Is Strong Offense With EMV, P2PE + Tokenization
By Jeremy Gumbley, CTO, Creditcall
While the payments landscape has become more complex (e.g. NFC, mobile, wearables), cyber thieves have become more tech savvy. In response, EMV, P2PE and tokenization have become effective solutions to thwart security risks. However, there is a lack of awareness on why there is value in relying on all three technologies, and not just one or two of these technologies alone.
On any strategic front, whether in sports, politics or combat, a multi-tiered approach is necessary to overcome challenges and threats. Likewise, EMV alone might reduce the usefulness of skimmed and hacked cards but it won’t stop data breaches. To better understand the merit in leveraging all three technologies, the following addresses the shortcomings of relying on just one solution and why leveraging EMV, P2PE and tokenization in combination provides the strongest security defense.
