SYNNEX is introducing the HP EliteBook Folio 1040, described as a business Ultrabook. Bob Stegner, senior VP of Marketing, North America, SYNNEX, highlights the differences between rugged and consumer devices and how VARs can overcome customer objections to selecting rugged computers.

What makes notebooks designed for businesses more rugged than consumer devices?

Stegner: Major differences are craftsmanship and testing and certification. HP EliteBooks, for example, go through rigorous testing before they are deployed and are MIL-STD-810G tested and certified, meaning they pass a Department of Defense standard that puts the notebooks through drop, shock, vibration, dust, humidity, altitude, high and low temperatures, and temperature shock tests. The notebooks also include better craftsmanship than a consumer model with magnesium construction, aluminum-alloy hinges, spill-resistant keyboards with drains, longer lasting keyboard lettering, and many others features.
