Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ: SYMC) today announced an expansion of its partnership with Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP) to provide customers the ability to gain visibility and control over their data center storage infrastructure through Veritas CommandCentral Storage. Under the terms of the agreement, NetApp will co-brand and resell the Veritas CommandCentral Storage product family. NetApp selected Veritas CommandCentral Storage based on the product's comprehensive support for multi-vendor storage environments as well as Symantec's leadership in the data center. Additionally, Gartner has positioned CommandCentral Storage in the leaders quadrant of the 'Magic Quadrant for Combined Storage Resource Management and SAN Management Software, 4Q05' report.

"We value Symantec's leadership and strong position in the enterprise SRM and SAN management market," said Patrick Rogers, vice president of Products and Alliances Marketing at NetApp. "CommandCentral will extend NetApp heterogeneous SAN management capabilities and complement our Manageability Software family and unified storage systems. Adding Symantec's market-leading solution to the NetApp® product portfolio enhances our position as a leader in data center infrastructure."

Symantec Extends its Relationship with NetApp
Symantec has a long-standing relationship with NetApp in delivering solutions to customers with Veritas NetBackup, Veritas Storage Foundation, Veritas Cluster Server, and Enterprise Vault.

Enterprise customers around the world require end-to-end visibility into their environments, from the application layer through the entire infrastructure stack. CommandCentral Storage's unique and market-leading support for NetApp's unified storage systems and advanced technologies such as SnapMirror® and Snapshot™ provides insight and reporting capabilities both across the data center and down to the file level. Veritas CommandCentral Storage is the only product that provides a unified view both for SAN and NAS capabilities of NetApp filers. Additionally, CommandCentral Storage has consistently demonstrated support for the largest environments, including storage networks with 1,000 hosts and 50,000 LUNs.

"Veritas CommandCentral Storage is the market's leading independent SAN management and SRM solution," said Robert Soderbery, vice president of product management and alliances for Symantec's Data Center Management Group. "Users that deploy CommandCentral Storage gain visibility across their storage environments and deliver immediate returns to the business by better managing their storage resources. Our new relationship with NetApp brings together two of the true leaders in data center storage to provide customers with a powerful storage offering."

CommandCentral Positioned in Leaders Quadrant
Veritas CommandCentral Storage was positioned by Gartner, Inc. in the leaders quadrant of the 'Magic Quadrant for Combined Storage Resource Management and SAN Management Software, 4Q05' report. According to Gartner's report, the market is increasingly looking for solutions that include SAN management as part of an overall SRM suite. Thus, Gartner has merged SAN management software into the SRM Magic Quadrant. SRM software that includes SAN management is a mix of solutions that target end-to-end management of the storage infrastructure and those that focus on a single or limited set of functionality within the storage infrastructure.

"Managing the growing complexity of storage resources remains a challenge in data centers today. The market-leading solutions in Gartner's Magic Quadrant report have started to address this challenge more holistically," said Dave Russell, Research Director, Global Storage at Gartner. "A complete solution will not only scale to meet the growing complexity of networked storage environments, but also automate key components of the management and monitoring process."
