Siteworx Spins Off Axiom Subsidiary
To meet demand among midsize enterprises and associations for a technology that manages all aspects of their Web presence, Siteworx has created and launched a separate subsidiary around Axiom, its platform for enabling Web communications, commerce, and database functions as part of the enterprise.
The new company offers a suite of products that includes two levels of a content management system (CMS), the first being a department-level package where content is not confined to a document and can be published to the Web or other venues. The second takes the unique storage and retrieval capability and applies it to an enterprise for integration with other applications, multiple divisions, and organizational silos.
"The Internet was originally designed to help people access and make better use of information, so it grew up around documents - the most prominent type of information container," says Chief Marketing Officer Jeff Ellsworth. "But content today must be more flexible than the physical nature of documents allows. Axiom is a solution for overcoming that challenge because organizations can take elements of any content - speech, video, book chapters, or other documents - and repurpose them with context based on a user's specific query."
Other benefits of the Axiom framework include its modular construction that allows for growth or change in business model, its reliable and secure application hosting capability, and its compatibility with contemporary technologies that give users a tightly integrated, interactive Web site and associated applications.
Because of the positive results from Axiom deployments at well-known customers United Press International, PBS, and Harvard University, demand for the technology among resellers has gained momentum, which led Siteworx to set up a channel to accommodate the expected growth.
"Our mid-market target has found that a cookie-cutter approach will doom any Web site," says Axiom President Tim McLaughlin, "and that's what happened in the first generation of the Web. Many companies put up attractive sites, but they didn't take into account each organization's internal structure, and users' unique needs and roles. Resellers are starting to work with their clients to modernize those Web sites and they need a solution that provides the necessary functionality, so Axiom is a great fit."
In addition to McLaughlin and Ellsworth, Chief Technology Officer Gene Skonicki rounds out the management team.
