RSPA Webinar Examines Change In Payments For Food Service

Payments For Food Service

After months of talking about it, EMV finally made its way into the real world this past October. With the holiday shopping season behind us and new budgets being discussed and delegated, EMV is starting to gain some traction in 2016 around the U.S.

Based on recent stats from Visa, just under half of their payment cards currently in use have an EMV chip in them. As far as the terminals being ready though, that number is much lower, with many businesses still unable to accept an EMV payment.

While the actual migration, installation, and use is the most important thing the majority of businesses are focusing on, the food service industry is facing an expanded set of challenges in regards to adoption. The advent of EMV has caused the biggest disruption within this vertical as other contingencies are also coming into play. Things like wireless network support for mobile terminals, a needed change in worker behaviors, and cellular-enabled terminals are only a few of things that are coming along for the EMV ride.

Ingram Micro and RSPA hosted a webinar that not only discussed some of these hurdles, but the bulk of the webinar was dedicated to a panel discussion on the topic. The group included members from Mercury (now a Vantiv company), Ingram Micro, Ingenico, and Trend Micro. The wide variety of perspectives provided a holistic discussion that included security, devices, processing, and services.
