Rise Of The Internet Of Things Will Drive Increased IP Access Control Solutions Market

The explosion of connected devices that is making up the Internet of Things (IoT) is creating increased IP access control solutions demands that will drive the marketplace for VAR offerings and managed services.

Business Solutions cites a Markets and Markets report, that states IP video growth is predicted to surpass other segments of the surveillance market as a result of advantages in terms of quality, scalability, and flexibility. According to a press release, the report, “Video Surveillance Market by System (Analog, IP) by Hardware, Software & Services, Application (Infrastructure, Commercial, Institutional, Industrial and Residential), and Geography — Global Trends & Forecasts to 2013-2020,” finds the global video surveillance market is expected to climb from $13.98 billion in 2013 at a CAGR of 16.97 percent to reach $42.06 billion by 2020. The IP surveillance market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 23.51 percent.

Rob Mossman, in an article for Security InfoWatch, points out, “IP cameras have created a customer base comfortable with low voltage data and power structures, while the rise of domestic terrorism and other threats have redefined security as both the ability to observe a field and the ability to lock down all or part of a facility.” At the same time, access control is a significant feature of all new video installs, and these new trends are creating a ripe opportunity for VARs to embrace IP access control as a complement to network camera options, creating full solutions with low voltage architecture.

As Mossman states, “The network is the backbone…or the glue in the organization. Our customers are expecting simple and cost-effective physical solutions, both wireless and low voltage wired. As their need for access control drives investment, they are expecting us to bring better and more creative solutions than closets filled with control panels and miles of electrical wiring. Our customers are demanding modern solutions and connected network devices for not only sensors and video, but access control as well.”
