2015 will go down as a breakthrough year for drones in both consumer and commercial applications with the first FAA regulations announced, vast growth in the consumer market, and serious commercial enterprises exploding onto the scene. One thing is for sure, the drone revolution is happening and it represents a terrific opportunity for IT resellers. Commercial drones are impacting a wide range of industries from agriculture and inspections to mapping and surveying, and aerial photography. Let’s break down all the reasons to jump into this exciting industry while the iron is hot.

1. Innovations are Driving Rapid Expansion of the Market

Commercial/civilian drones will grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 19% between 2015 and 2020. New product innovations are announced monthly, and the drive for better cameras extends from a huge push from consumers for higher quality video content. The FAA estimated over 1 million new drone purchases over the holiday season, and even had to shut down its registration program temporarily to deal with the large influx of unexpected traffic. The market is expected to reach $3.5 billion by 2025.
