Point Of Sale And Payment Processing News From November 2014

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in point of sale and payment processing, Heartland acquires Xpient Solutions, JetPay acquires ACI Merchant Systems, and Worldpay enters into an agreement to acquire SecureNet Payment Systems. Also, Epson introduces a new mobile printer, and PCI publishes new security awareness guidelines.

Heartland Acquires Xpient Solutions

Heartland Payment Systems has acquired POS software provider XPIENT Solutions. XPIENT provides cloud-based, hardware- and software-agnostic solutions to large quick service and fast-casual restaurant brands that need enterprise functionality, with more than 25,000 installed locations and $15 billion in annual credit/debit card processing volume. To meet the technology needs of its restaurant industry customers, Heartland has been working to build a secure platform with functionality across restaurant operations with integrated payments and the ability to expand capabilities. Heartland announced the XPIENT leadership team will remain intact following the acquisition.

JetPay Announces ACI Merchant Systems Acquisition

JetPay Corporation announced the closing of the acquisition of debit and credit card processing company ACI Merchant Systems. The combined company will process approximately $20 billion in payments for approximately 14,000 businesses throughout the United States. The acquisition was funded by a combination of a credit facility from Metro Bank of Harrisburg, PA, the sale of Series A Preferred Stock to Flexpoint Ford under an existing commitment, and the issuance of shares of JetPay common stock.

Worldpay Enters Into Agreement To Acquire SecureNet Payment Systems

Worldpay announced its agreement to acquire SecureNet Payment Systems, owned by Sterling Partners, a Chicago-based private equity firm. SecureNet is a provider of multichannel commerce technology and has pioneered a cloud-based solution that integrates point of sale, mobile, and e-commerce payments processing, inventory management, and data analytics. SecureNet has a network of more than 100 referral and integrated partners. The SecureNet management team will remain with the company.

Epson Introduces Wireless Mobile Printer

Epson America now offers the WorkForce WF-100 mobile printer. It includes built-in wireless connectivity and Wi-Fi Direct2 for printing without a router from tablets, smartphones, and laptops. Users can print documents and borderless 4x6-inch photos at speeds of up to 6.7 ISO ppm (pages per minute) in black and white and 3.8 ISO ppm in color. It also includes an integrated rechargeable battery that charges via USB or AC adapter. The printer uses Epson Connect3, a suite of free mobile printing solutions including Email Print, Epson Creative Print, Epson iPrint, and Epson Remote Print. Features include support for Android printing, Kindle Fire printing, and Google Cloud Print.

PCI Security Standards Council Publishes New Security Awareness Guidance

The PCI Security Standards Council guidance has published an information supplement on the topic of dealing with and protecting sensitive payment information. Best Practices for Implementing Security Awareness Program was developed by the PCI Special Interest Group including retailers, banks, and technology providers. The guidance focuses on three key areas: raising security awareness, developing appropriate security awareness content for the organization, and creating a security awareness training checklist. It is available for download at the PCI Security Standards Council website.
