Point Of Sale And Payment Processing News

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in Point of Sale and Payment Processing news, RSPA appoints a new CEO and president, pcAmerica acquires MobiMagic, Shift4 certifies with Moneris, Lavu releases apps for niche markets, MMF POS partners with Star Micronics, Datacap Systems will offer Phoenix Managed Networks PhoeniXSentry, and Harbortouch offers a new sales center app and web-based demo.

RSPA Appoints New CEO And President

The Retail Solutions Provider Association (RSPA) Board of Directors has appointed Kelly Funk as CEO and president of the RSPA. Funk’s leadership and management experience includes positions with the Alzheimer’s Association, Genworth, and GE Financial. She holds a master’s degree in leadership from Georgetown University, where she is an adjunct faculty member. Funk takes the leadership role at RSPA following a period of significant membership growth and improved financial position for the association, as well as considerable change occurring in the POS industry.

Former CEO and president Joe Finizio has recently assumed the new role of executive director of industry strategies and relations. He will continue to strengthen the RSPA’s relationship with other associations, participate in developing strategy for the association, and work more closely with the broader RSPA membership.

pcAmerica Acquires MobiMagic

pcAmerica, a developer of retail and restaurant POS software, has acquired MobiMagic, a software platform that extends POS capabilities onto mobile devices. MobiMagic integrates a restaurant’s existing POS menu items into an app used on Apple devices. The interface provides end users with mobile technology without new development, design and integration with their current POS system. With the app, end users can enter orders tableside and process credit card transactions through an attached encrypted credit card reader.

Shift4 Certifies With Moneris For EMV Transaction Processing

Shift4 Corporation has completed Moneris Solutions certification of Shift4’s Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG)/DOLLARS ON THE NET solution for EMV transaction processing. Shift4’s UTG software controls the chip card reader, so any merchant using an approved device and whose POS system was certified for debit with Shift4 after June 2009 does not need to certify with Moneris, Canada’s largest debit and credit card processor, or obtain EMV approval. Merchant systems certified prior to June 2009 need only minor modifications to their code. The certification is currently available using the Ingenico iPP320 PIN pad device.

Lavu Releases Apps For Niche Markets, Financing Option

Lavu unveiled solutions for two niche markets — indoor karting and athletic centers — as well as a financing program. Lavu Kart is a set of companion apps engineered for the indoor karting business to run with Lavu iPadPOS.  The applications sync directly with external tracking and repair hardware systems and displays. They include visitor registration, event scheduling, scoreboard display integration, and the ability to sell race credits through the POS. Lavu Fit is designed for gyms, fitness facilities, and other athletic centers. Integrated RFID scanners scan membership cards at entry, members can sign documents for equipment use or waivers directly on the iPad, and the solution includes a full customer database with recurring billing functions to auto-collect payments. Lavu also announced that it has connected with Zephyr Hardware’s financing decision engine that allows virtual and almost instant credit decisions, while facilitating POS financing in as little as 24 hours. The financing covers Lavu iPad POS software, hardware, and related services.

MMF POS Partners With Star Micronics

MMF POS has partnered with Star Micronics to help strengthen its mobile POS cash management solution.  Star Micronics’ DK-AirCash units provide wireless control of MMF cash drawers. Star’s DK-AirCash enables communication from Apple, Android, or Windows devices and mobile printers with the cash drawer through an Ethernet, Bluetooth, or MFi certified Bluetooth connection.

Datacap Systems Joins With Phoenix Managed Networks

Through a new partnership, Datacap Systems, a provider of integrated payment solutions (middleware) for POS systems, will offer Phoenix Managed Networks PhoeniXSentry to its dealers and their merchant customers. This will provide Datacap Security dealers with a cloud-based network security service offering, as well as a recurring revenue and cross-selling opportunity. PhoeniXSentry, a channel-ready managed network security service, is PCI DSS Level 1-certified and ensures all businesses under its protection meet their PCI DSS compliance requirements.

Harbortouch Offers New Sales Center App, Web-Based POS Demo

Harbortouch offers a new version of its POS Sales Center iPad app. The app features a wizard that facilitates the process of completing the merchant application, POS service agreement, and POS account setup form, which Harbortouch partners then can submit directly through the app. In addition, the app enables the preparation of POS proposals for potential merchants and then automatically populates the application documents using the information from the proposal once they are ready to sign. This update also adds live demo functionality for hospitality, retail, and quick-service restaurant (QSR) and delivery software, eliminating the need for a second demo app and streamlining the sales process.

Harbortouch also announced a new Web-based live demo for its hospitality, retail, and QSR and delivery software. Harbortouch partners can demonstrate the software from any computer, tablet, or laptop with an Internet connection.
