Podcast: Retail IT VARs Adapt To Changes In Payments, Security, And Business Models
At ScanSource’s Worldwide Partner Conference for POS and Barcoding, Greg Dixon, ScanSource’s CTO and technology evangelist, spoke to Business Solutions president Jim Roddy about changes in the retail IT landscape.
In this podcast Dixon provides advice for guiding your clients through the transition to EMV and enhancing payment security. He also comments on the shift from the break-fix to the as-a-Service business model, pointing out although it is relatively new for POS and bar code resellers, it is not new for your clients: “Those customers were already getting managed services opportunities from their core network folks and are already accustomed to it. They’re already accustomed to paying a monthly bill for a service level agreement.”
Dixon points out POS and bar code resellers have to be aware of this. “They need to learn to speak that language, and they need also to learn how to embrace and manage these devices, these edge devices. Otherwise, I’m afraid they’re going to be overrun and sort of pushed out of the network.”
He says with changes in the world of retail IT, “Our business models are going to have to change to accommodate that new world.”
