Omneon Video Networks Chooses Xyratex's HS-0435 Application Platform For Its MediaGrid Active Storage System

Xyratex Ltd. (NASDAQ:XRTX), a leading provider of storage systems for OEMs and Solution Integrators, announced today that it has signed an OEM agreement with Omneon Video Networks.

Under the agreement, Xyratex will supply Omneon Video Networks with its ATX based 1U Application Platform, the HS-0435. Omneon will integrate their MediaGrid storage and file system management software into the ATX platform to create the ContentServer 1042, an intelligent storage device that interacts with other components of the recently announced MediaGrid Active Storage System.

"We selected Xyratex because of their ability to supply us with a robust and flexible application ready platform using the industry standard ATX form factor that met our design and cost requirements perfectly," said Geoff Stedman, Omneon vice president of worldwide marketing. "The cost-efficient HS-0435 platform with Intel processors, dual GigE ports, and embedded Linux OS, allows us to easily integrate our MediaGrid software to create a highly differentiated advanced storage system with a compelling price/performance advantage."

The ContentServer 1042 is part of Omneon's award winning MediaGrid Active Storage System, which was launched at NAB 2006 in April. This offering is the first content storage system specifically designed for digital media workflows. The product features a unique design that enables television broadcasters and content providers the ability to easily implement an all-digital, disk-based workflow and to connect many disparate systems into a single shared-storage environment. MediaGrid combines grid storage and grid computing through the use of multiple intelligent, interconnected-yet-independent storage servers or ContentServers, to provide centralized shared storage that is scalable in capacity, bandwidth, and media processing power.

"Xyratex has a longstanding relationship with Omneon Video Networks and we are very pleased they selected the HS-0435 as a ContentServer in their new MediaGrid application," added Todd Gresham, executive vice president of storage and network systems at Xyratex. "Omneon's selection validates the continuing success and industry acceptance of our Application Platforms and of our ongoing commitment to provide our OEMs with adaptable storage building blocks that offer best-in-class features and functionality."

Xyratex's JBOD and SBOD storage systems are also used by Omneon in their line of MediaStore 4000 storage arrays which form an integral component of Omneon's Spectrum Media Server Solutions.
