New RFID Mobile Computer From Honeywell Simplifies Inventory Management For Retailers

Optimus 5900 RFID designed to deliver unprecedented visibility and cost savings to retail and supply chain environments

Honeywell recently announced the company’s first device combining radio frequency identification (RFID) and automated data collection, the Optimus 5900 RFID mobile computer. Equipped with UHF RFID technology to read EPC Gen2 and ISO 18000-6B RFID tags, the Optimus 5900 RFID enables streamlined inventory management by delivering comprehensive data capture in one sleek, lightweight device.

Performing item-level inventory management using the Optimus 5900 RFID mobile computer can offer significant cost savings for soft goods retailers. Inventory cycle counts can be conducted faster, more frequently, and with fewer workers, providing greater inventory visibility, accuracy, and reduced labor cost. The benefits of RFID-based inventory management also extend to warehousing and distribution operations, offering fast and accurate tracking of products from delivery to point-of-sale.

“The introduction of Honeywell’s first RFID mobile computer showcases our commitment and dedication to improving worker efficiency and enterprise profitability in the retail industry,” said John Waldron, president, Honeywell Scanning & Mobility. “Adding to our robust mobile computing portfolio, the Optimus 5900 RFID offers immediate visibility and cost savings to soft goods retailers.”

The lightweight yet rugged mobile computer is packaged in a smaller and lighter form factor for ease of use over an extended period of time and comes complete with a crisp 3.5-inch screen, resistive touch panel and 28-key keyboard for accurate data entry. The device can be operated with or without the removable handle to satisfy worker preference with regard to ergonomics. Integrated RFID and Adaptus Imaging Technology enable comprehensive data capture and provide added value to customers through simplified application development, device integration and support logistics.

The Optimus 5900 RFID kit comes complete with the terminal and all required peripherals, including a charging and communication cradle, charging adapter, USB cable and hand strap, making the device ready for use right out of the box. The device is available with Honeywell’s Service Made Simple service plans and extended warranty options.

The Optimus 5900 RFID mobile computer will begin shipping in May. For more information, please visit www.honeywellaidc.com.
