Mobile Thermal Printers Help Streamline DSD/Route Operations

This case study from Brother Mobile Solutions takes a look at Auto-Chlor System, a market leader in the production, service, and maintenance of commercial dishwashing machines as aging printers in their service vehicles began to require more resources and maintenance budget while hindering delivery driver efficiency. Nigel Lin, Director of Information Systems at Auto-Chlor was tasked with finding a mobile printing solution that would meet the needs of the company’s national fleet of service and delivery technicians.

One major cost of Auto-Chlor’s current printing solution was managing accessory issues, mainly consisting of connectivity problems with the cables connecting handhelds to printers. A large amount of time was required to troubleshoot these cable problems and having to purchase and ship replacements only caused more delays and costs. Because of this, wireless connectivity was a key requirement for any new printing solution at Auto-Chlor.

Auto-Chlor has country-wide service operations, so they wanted their new printing solution to be simple to deploy and operate in the field. Drivers operate independently, so Auto-Chlor needed to be able to provide them with a field-ready solution that could be set up quickly and easily and maintenance free once deployed. The printers also had to be able to withstand the rigors of technician’s DSD routes and be able to handle moisture in the field.
