McAfee Expands Next-Generation Web Security For HP BladeSystem Architecture

McAfee has announced an expanded blade strategy with the HP BladeSystem as the platform for delivering McAfee's gateway security solutions. With this release, McAfee is broadening platform options to include both the HP c3000 and HP c7000 chassis as its M3-class and M7-class products and adding the McAfee Web Gateway appliance with a new next-generation anti-malware engine to the existing EWS email security protection offered in the McAfee Content Security Blade Server.

As noted in the recent McAfee Q2 Threats Report, malware problems continue to increase with botnets at an all-time high while Trojans and worms continue to attack social network sites. Additionally, tools and services continue to make it easy to create new malware. The McAfee Content Security Blade Server helps protect organizations from these threats with a fully extensible content security platform offering both Web and email security.

"As Web use continues to grow and evolve, so do Web-borne malware attacks," said Dan Ryan, executive vice president and general manager, Network Security Business Unit of McAfee. "IT departments and budgets are being stretched thin, and enterprises need to streamline management of systems and reduce the complexity of their data centers. With McAfee Web Gateway on the HP BladeSystem, organizations can achieve operational savings and stay ahead of the latest threats."

With this announcement, McAfee continues to deliver leading network security solutions and expanded deployment options that address the needs of a broader set of enterprises. The addition of McAfee Web Gateway to the McAfee Content Security Blade Server brings enhanced infrastructure features to the HP carrier-grade blade architecture that can now support the Web security needs of the largest enterprises and providers. McAfee Web Gateway's industry-leading anti-malware capabilities provide the protection that organizations need to safely take advantage of all that Web 2.0 has to offer. McAfee Web Gateway now offers new, next-generation anti-malware protection from McAfee Avert Labs, including:

  • Enhanced real-time behavioral detection of Web 2.0 malicious mobile code
  • Advanced zero-day and targeted attack exploit detection without a signature, regardless of media or content type
  • True context-based threat detection

"To mitigate business risks, customers need to guard against malware, spam and harmful viruses that are often associated with unlimited web access and the large amounts of data produced from applications like email," said Jim Jackson, vice president, Marketing and Solutions, Infrastructure Software and Blades, HP. "Together, HP BladeSystem and the McAfee Content Security Blade Server provide customers dramatically improved integrity of their business data."

McAfee Content Security Blade Server
The McAfee Content Security Blade Server provides a fully extensible content security platform offering email and Web security that enables organizations to protect their organization against today's growing spam volumes and malware threats. And with the introduction of the smaller M3 enclosure, a broader range of enterprises can now experience the benefits of the McAfee Content Security Blade Server, such as: reduced costs and implementation complexity, and streamlined management. Organizations can easily reduce multi-appliance implementations to a single enclosure.

The McAfee Content Security Blade Server can also benefit companies that are working to adopt "green" computing practices. The product helps companies cut down on datacenter costs, which include power and cooling. Compared with traditional appliance or server form factors, the McAfee Content Security Blade Server also reduces space requirements, helping companies reduce the physical footprint needed to manage security.
