Kodak Executive Discusses Adopting A DITA At Intelligent Content: All Things Delivered 2011

Kodak's Hava Haberfield, Knowledge Manager, Prepress and Workflow products, will present "Lessons Learned From KODAK DITA Experience," on Feb. 16, during the Intelligent Content 2011: All Things Delivered conference, held at The Hotel Zoso, Palm Springs, CA.

The session will showcase how organizations can transform the way they share, manage and reuse publishing content with a strategic knowledge management team. Haberfield will recount the Kodak knowledge management team's journey and new approach to more intelligent content management.

The presentation offers tips and best practices for companies looking to implement Darwin Information Typing Architecture (DITA)—an XML-based program used by content authors, editors and other publishing personnel for sharing content—into their businesses. In just two years, Kodak saved significant dollars in translations costs for implementing the DITA model into their worldwide content developer department. Results included the creation of numerous published output types—activities, answer keys for PDF deliverables, and interactive quizzes for HTML-based deliverables.

"DITA-based models are increasingly on the rise for enterprise-level businesses," said Sue Cardot, Worldwide Marketing Director, Service and Support, Eastman Kodak Company. "Publishing information to multiple channels on a global level enables businesses to capture and reuse content in more efficient, effective ways. KODAK Service and Support is able to consult with businesses on creating an effective DITA model, customized to meet their organization's needs and achieve long-term savings in content management."

The DITA architecture enables companies to author, produce and publish information through XML. Delivery output typically includes product support portals, online help features, and other features used for web-publishing—including PDF files, CRM, support sites and web help files. Using this XML solution, businesses can achieve savings in translations, more flexible publishing options, and have the ability to reuse content through modular engineering developments.

Intelligent Content 2011 marks its third year as an annual meeting for thought leaders and practitioners to focus on improving the usability, adaptability and delivery of content to a wide variety of users.
