White Paper: Opportunities Abound To Grow ID Card Sales

It's an industry that is ever-growing. In all industry segments, ID cards are on the rise thanks to security concerns, loyalty programs, and constant change to the technology. Those familiar with the industry have identified several ‘hot markets' that VARs can consider pursuing to grow their ID card printing sales. The key to being successful in any market, these experts say, is tying in as many solutions as possible to the functionality of a card.

Opportunities In Higher Education
Mark Doi, director of end user sales, education market for HID Global, which recently acquired Fargo Electronics, says universities are a growth market for ID card sales. This market includes more than 4,100 four-year accredited colleges and universities and two-year technical and community colleges. That equates to as many as 17.5 million students and 3.4 million faculty members in the United States alone, according to Doi. By 2015, he says, total enrollment is expected to grow to nearly 20 million.

Security is a highly publicized issue facing the university market as illustrated by the recent tragedies at Virginia Tech and Northern Illinois University. While ID cards won't stop an intruder with a weapon, they can help to improve the overall security of a campus. The cards enable a university to control access to campus buildings, computers, and networks.
