Full Line Of Böwe Bell + Howell Scanners Certified For New Kofax VRS 4.0 Image Enhancement Technology

Böwe Bell + Howell announced that its full line of document scanners is now certified for the latest version of Kofax's VirtualReScan (VRS) technology, the de facto industry standard for image processing. Released in May 2005, VRS 4.0 improves scanning productivity and enhances the quality of scanned document images.

After rigorous testing by both Kofax and Böwe Bell + Howell, all Spectrum production scanner models have been certified as fully compatible for use with VRS 4.0 Plus, an advanced version of VRS 4.0 that includes additional productivity-enhancing features. This includes the new Spectrum XF series, which performs up to 30 percent faster than previous models, capturing up to 140 pages per minute.

Kofax and Böwe Bell + Howell also tested and certified the Sidekick family of workgroup and departmental scanners for the Plus and Standard versions of VRS 4.0. Sidekick, a powerful bundle that contains in a single box everything an end user needs to operate a desktop imaging solution, will soon come packaged with VRS 4.0 Standard.

Böwe Bell + Howell's new Truper 3200 low-volume production scanner, which started shipping June 29, already has been certified for, and comes packaged with, VRS 4.0 Plus.

VRS 4.0 and Böwe Bell + Howell Scanners: A Cost-Effective Combination
Expanding on the capabilities of previous versions, VRS 4.0 includes advanced image processing, an improved user interface with the look and feel of Windows XP, and features that further reduce document preparation, saving time and labor.

Used in combination with VRS 4.0 Plus, Spectrum XF, with onboard VRS hardware, makes scanning documents in color as efficient as scanning in bitonal or grayscale. In addition to the Spectrum scanner line's existing onboard Auto Color Detect feature -- which eliminates the labor-intensive process of separating color documents from black-and-white documents -- Spectrum scannners with VRS 4.0 Plus offer Auto Orientation, Blank Page Deletion and QC Later mode for users of Kofax's new Ascent Capture 7.0.

With VRS 4.0 Plus, Spectrum XF delivers some of the highest optical character recognition (OCR), intelligent character recognition (ICR) and barcode recognition rates in the industry for cost-effective forms processing.

"We recognize the productivity benefits to end users of VRS 4.0, especially when used with our scanners, which are designed with the same goal in mind," said Russell Hunt, president of Böwe Bell + Howell Scanners. "And now that Böwe Bell + Howell's full line of scanners is fully integrated with VRS 4.0, we can provide users a consistent, reliable platform across all of our high-end, mid-range and entry-level scanners."
