Fujitsu Computer Products of America, Inc. (FCPA), a market leader in document imaging scanners and services, today announced the integration of Kofax's newest version of VRS (VirtualReScan) automated document image-perfecting hardware into the company's low- and mid-volume production scanner lines. By integrating Kofax's VRS 3.1 technology and Adrenaline 650i SCSI interface boards and cables with the Fujitsu M4097D-VRS low-volume production scanner and M4099D-VRS mid-volume production scanner, Fujitsu continues to expand its existing strategic partnership with Kofax, the world's largest information capture vendor.
Fujitsu, always maintaining its leadership in the document imaging price-versus-performance market, also announced that both the Fujitsu M4097D-VRS and Fujitsu M4099D-VRS scanners will maintain their same low price while incorporating Kofax's newest version of VRS technology and Adrenaline 650i SCSI interface boards and cables.
"Fujitsu provides its customers with more feature-rich scanning solutions than any other vendor in the document imaging industry and Fujitsu's integration of the latest VRS technology with our scanners underscores that commitment," said Scott Francis, senior product marketing manager, Imaging Products Group, FCPA. "Customers now have the opportunity to purchase the best information capture solutions on the market, with the newest state of the art features and functionality, at the same price point."
VRS has become the de facto industry standard for scanning productivity by improving the readability of scanned documents through automatically straightening, cropping and optimizing their exposure in real time. Fujitsu was the first vendor to offer Kofax's VRS technology with its scanners and, since then, has continued to significantly deepen its partnership with the company. The VRS hardware and software integration with Fujitsu's wide range of scanners enables customers to complete document capture tasks more efficiently and at a lower cost.

Fujitsu M4097D-VRS and M4099D-VRS Scanners
With up to 90 images-per-minute (ipm) throughput (duplex), the Fujitsu M4097D-VRS low-volume production duplex document scanner easily satisfies the needs of organizations looking to incorporate the benefits of image capture. The scanners optical resolution of 400 dots-per-inch (dpi) standard image processing and 1,024-level internal grayscale combine to deliver superior images. Flexible paper-handling complements the high speed and image quality of the M4097D-VRS scanner. Its 100-page automatic document feeder supports sizes ranging from 2.1" by 2.9" to 11.7" by 17", features infrared double-feed detection to ensure batch integrity, can be continuously fed for greater efficiency, and detects document length in mixed-size batches.
The Fujitsu M4099D-VRS production scanner delivers the right combination of speed, performance and convenience for the ultimate in mid-volume production-level document imaging capabilities. It scans up to 90 pages-per-minute (ppm) in simplex mode (and up to 180 ipm in duplex mode) with the power to process up to 15,000 pages per day, satisfying the needs of even the most demanding production environments. A large-capacity, 1000-page automatic document feeder handles a wide variety of paper sizes (from A7 to A3), and can also be configured for stacks of 250 or 500 pages. With its 400 dpi optical resolution and 256-level grayscale capabilities, the Fujitsu M4099D-VRS scanner delivers finer, more detailed images than comparable high-speed scanners. The M4099D-VRS also includes industry-standard TWAIN and ISIS drivers for use with a wide variety of scanning applications and software solutions.
About VRS (VirtualReScan)
VRS enables high accuracy in data captured from scanned documents, significantly reducing the need for manual corrections of intelligent character recognition (ICR) and optical character recognition (OCR) results. As images pass through a scanner, VRS performs a multi-point inspection of each document. VRS instantly checks and adjusts for alignment (skew), brightness, contrast, and image clarity. Any inconsistencies are immediately corrected by VRS so that only the straightest, most readable images are processed.
The use of VRS as part of the document capture process will result in lower operating costs due to increased automated recognition accuracy, fewer rescans, easier-to-read images, and a significant reduction in the manual labor required to presort documents and change scanner settings.
