Extreme Networks, Inc. (NASDAQ:EXTR), and StillSecure, provider of an award-winning, integrated suite of network security solutions, today announced that they are partnering to combine switching intelligence and strong authentication with flexible network access management to help secure the network from devices that do not comply with organizational security policies. The combination delivers a best-in-class solution for hardware level policy enforcement.

Extreme Networks is introducing the new Sentriant Access Guard (AG) to protect the network by helping to ensure that end-point devices are free from threats and are in compliance with IT security policies. The Sentriant AG is an enterprise-class solution that offers true agent-less end-point testing without the need for installing any client software. Using Extreme Networks' standards-based 802.1x implementation on its award-winning Ethernet switches and ExtremeXOS operating system, the Sentriant AG can place end- points on appropriate VLANs (quarantine VLAN, guest VLAN or production VLAN) based on test results.

Network administrators can set up access policies to define which applications and services are permitted and specify the response actions to be taken when devices do not comply. The Sentriant AG can administer hundreds of tests, including tests checking for worms, viruses and Trojans. Based on the test results, end-point devices are either permitted or denied access, or quarantined to a specific part of the network, resulting in tighter security enforcement.

By working with StillSecure, Extreme Networks provides a seamless solution based upon the Safe Access award-winning technology, most recently named Best Endpoint Security Solution in SC Magazine's 2006 SC Awards. The Sentriant AG controls network access for various user types including visitors, partners and remote users connecting over the Local Area Network (LAN), Virtual Private Network (VPN) and RAS.
