Employee Security Training Could Open Doors To Risk Assessment, Network Security Sales

Selling network security solutions to SMBs can be a challenge. Owners of small to midsize businesses could believe they are too small to be a target of cyberattack or that their data would be of no interest to criminals so there is no need to protect their systems. Art Gross, CEO of Breach Secure Now!, says when SMBs are in denial about their cyberattack risk, it’s hard for them to understand the importance of policies and firewalls — but they do understand employee training.

Last month, Breach Secure Now!, a security platform that includes risk assessments, policies and procedures, training, and scanning tools, launched new, unlimited security training. Managed services providers (MSPs) can provide this white-labeled training through a secure portal and bundle the training with the antivirus protection, firewalls, and security patch management services you already provide. The subscription gives you training for a number of seats that can be used across all clients and prospects. In addition to providing training for your clients, Gross suggests that you could use the training as a marketing tool; for example, you could host a webinar on security best practices and offer security training to those who attend.

“We find that when you offer training, you can bring risk assessments and policies and procedures into the discussion. We are lowering the barriers to engage,” Gross says.

While attending conferences and speaking with MSPs, Gross continually heard the need for a service that trained SMB employees on security — he cited the 2014 IBM Cyber Security Intelligence Index that found 95 percent of security breaches involve some degree of human error.

Breach Secure Now!’s security training uses videos and quizzes — such as a video on how to spot a phishing email followed by a quiz on whether an email is legitimate or a phishing attempt — to engage employees and teach them how to keep data and systems safe.  Training topics include internal and external threats, the dangers of public Wi-Fi, mobile device protection, and strong passwords, as well physical measures that protect the digital realm such as putting away confidential data or login information instead of leaving it on your desk.

Gross, founder of the MSP Entegration, developed HIPAA Secure Now!, an all-in-one HIPAA security service, and launched Breach Secure Now!, a security-based compliance service for SMBs earlier this year.

“The one thing I truly believe is that everyone needs security training,” Gross said. “You wouldn’t take on a client who refused to use antivirus or firewalls. Every channel member should roll out training.”
