Eaton Introduces Energy Saving, Plug-And-Play Power Protection For SOHO, Point-Of-Sale And IT Telephony Equipment

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation recently announced the new Eaton 3S battery backup, a highly efficient, reliable power protection, and surge device that is integrated with Eaton's award-winning Intelligent Power Protector software. The 3S systems are specifically designed to protect small office or home office (SOHO) equipment, personal computers (PCs), networked workstations, telephony equipment and home entertainment systems against damaging and costly power disturbances.

Affordable and energy-efficient, the feature-rich 3S includes EcoControl power outlets on its 750 VA model that can control shutdown of accessory devices to save up to 30 percent in energy consumption. The 3S provides surge protection for up to 10 devices, including five battery backup receptacles, as well as devices connected to data lines.

The 3S works with Eaton's free Intelligent Power Protector software, allowing users to quickly and easily manage and monitor all of the power devices on a network. The software is designed to conduct a safe and graceful shutdown of powered devices when an extended power outage occurs.

"By combining simple plug-and-play installation and an energy-efficient design with advanced power protection software, our new 3S models offer affordable, easy-to-use power protection for home, small offices and retail environments," said Hervé Tardy, senior vice president and general manager, Distributed Power Quality Division, Eaton. "In addition, home entertainment enthusiasts will appreciate the protection the 3S provides for gaming consoles, televisions, DVR and DVD players, and stereo components."

The 3S is ready to operate out of the box with Windows, Macintosh and Linux systems. The sleek, black glossy design of the 3S complements modern office and home environments and is available in convenient, wall-mountable desktop models. In spite of their compact size, the 550 VA and 750 VA units pack enough battery power to keep typical PCs running for 20 to 45 minutes, depending on model and configuration, allowing plenty of time to operate through most power disturbances or to conduct an orderly shutdown during a prolonged blackout.

The 3S units with user-replaceable batteries and an unmatched three-year warranty are available now in North America, with prices starting at $76.
