Document Imaging Solution: OCR XPRESS For Full-Page OCR Introduced By Pegasus Imaging

Enhance applications by using OCR Xpress to process scanned or faxed images in thirteen languages, automatically rotate images, and output searchable text PDF files.

Pegasus Imaging Corporation, the leading provider of document imaging technology, announces the release of OCR Xpress, a new software development kit (SDK) for fast and accurate full-page optical character recognition (OCR) using .NET and ActiveX COM development interfaces.

OCR Xpress recognizes full pages of text found in single and multi-page image files, with a high rate of accuracy and speed. It automatically orients rotated pages. The SDK also performs deskew, binarization, and segmentation of documents into image and text elements. It supports output to multiple text and text-plus-image formats including Microsoft® Word®-compatible RTF files and standard Adobe® PDF files.

"This product energizes the Pegasus product line with a powerful infusion of new technology," says Jack Berlin, president of Pegasus Imaging. "We answered our customer requests for full-page OCR so they can reduce or eliminate licensing from other vendors. OCR Xpress further reinforces that we are the one-stop shop for reliable document imaging and forms processing technology."

OCR Xpress supports thirteen languages, including English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Danish, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Hungarian, Polish, and Finnish. The product provides a dictionary for each language supported, and also supports user-defined dictionaries for words that are application-specific.

OCR Xpress flags characters recognized with low confidence, allowing users to make corrections to text prior to final output. Developers may easily build text proofing and character replacement functions into their applications.

OCR Xpress provides advanced segmentation algorithms to locate regions of the input image and identify them as either images (whose color can be preserved) or areas containing recognizable text. The binarization function can recognize black-and-white text without affecting picture (or non-text) regions, which may be retained in full color for reinsertion into the output document.
