CompTIA Introduces New IT Fundamentals Certification Exam

CompTIA, the IT industry association and the largest provider of vendor neutral skills certifications for the world’s IT workforce, recently announced the availability of the new CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification exam.

CompTIA IT Fundamentals covers a range of IT topics and provides a solid grounding in the technology concepts and practices organizations use today.

“IT literacy is a critical element in today’s innovation economy, which drives employment and powers growth in many other industries,” said Todd Thibodeaux, president and chief executive officer, CompTIA. “This credential addresses the growing need for a deeper understanding of technology fundamentals throughout an organization.”

CompTIA IT Fundamentals is intended for individuals whose jobs require them to have a foundational level understanding of IT terminology, but are not necessarily involved in the same day-to-day, hands-on work as an IT professional. It is also relevant for organizations that want to promote and verify basic fluency in IT terminology and concepts among their employees.

Sales associates, sales engineers, account managers, business development managers, product and marketing specialists and entry level customer support personnel are just a few of the job categories that can benefit from earning this credential.

CompTIA IT Fundamentals certification is also relevant for students and adult career changers considering a career in IT. By earning a credential from an organization well known and widely respected for its certification program, it demonstrates to prospective employers they’re ready to enter the IT workforce. Exam Content and Prep Options

Training materials for CompTIA IT Fundamentals are expected to be available this month, with the CompTIA CertMaster course due in November.

With the introduction of the CompTIA IT Fundamentals exam, the association said today it will retire the CompTIA Strata exam on Aug. 31, 2015.
