ERIE, PA – Hire Like You Just Beat Cancer author Jim Roddy will participate in the sixth annual Pink Zone fundraiser, scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 16, at Gannon University’s Hammermill Center in Erie, PA.

The Gannon women’s basketball team has set a goal of raising $20,000 for the Erie chapter of Making Strides Against Breast Cancer and for Linked by Pink. The Lady Knights will host Clarion University at 1 p.m. on Feb. 16, followed by the Gannon-Clarion men’s contest at 3 p.m.

Roddy, a 1992 graduate and a four-year basketball player at Gannon, will offer signed copies of his book at a discounted price and will donate $5 from the sale of each book to the Pink Zone fundraiser.

“I’ve been very impressed with what coach Cleve Wright and his program have done with the Pink Zone fundraiser, and I’m honored to participate this year,” Roddy said. “My goals for the book are to educate, inspire those battling cancer, and raise funds to fight cancer, and this event does all that. What makes it a perfect fit is that I was on the bench for most of my career at Gannon, so I’m very familiar with sitting in the Hammermill Center for an entire afternoon.”

In the past five years, the Gannon women’s basketball team has raised nearly $68,000 in support of breast cancer research. The game’s “Hall of Fame” sponsors are the Gannon University Athletics Department, the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, WJET-24/FOX-66, and UPMC Hamot.

Additional sponsors include Giant Eagle, UPMC Health Plan, Silkscreen Unlimited, Johannes Chiropractic, ErieBank, Erie Sports Store, Panera Bread, FastSigns, Ambridge Rose Spa and Salon, and Romolo Chocolates.

General donations can be made by contacting the Gannon University women’s basketball offices at 814-871-5791.

Admission to both Pink Zone games is free. The Lady Knights will wear pink uniforms for the game.
