CA Extends BrightStor Storage Management With Arkivio File Management Technology

CA (NYSE:CA) and Arkivio Inc. today announced an agreement under which CA will incorporate the ARKIVIO AUTO-STOR enterprise file management solution into its BrightStor product line, helping customers simplify data management while optimizing storage resources across heterogeneous data and storage environments.

ARKIVIO AUTO-STOR is a leading Information Lifecycle Management (ILM) solution that discovers and organizes data and storage according to its business value. It complements CA's BrightStor email archiving, recovery and resource management solutions by creating and automatically executing policies to move data to optimal resources across SAN, NAS and storage grids. CA will market the product as CA File System Manager.

"Adding ARKIVIO software to CA's BrightStor solutions looks like an excellent fit for both companies," said Steve Duplessie, founder/senior analyst at the Enterprise Strategy Group. "CA can now offer customers enhanced management of unstructured data, helping them control rapidly escalating storage costs without compromising end-users' access to critical data."

The ARKIVIO AUTO-STOR classification system sorts data at a granular level, allowing value to be assigned based on key business criteria. Using a patented ILM scoring system, the policy engine leverages this information to execute policies that transparently move data among resources.

"Faced with explosive data growth and mandated retention requirements, IT organizations are struggling to stretch their infrastructure budgets," said Anders Lofgren, senior vice president of CA's BrightStor business unit. "This partnership between CA and Arkivio directly addresses this critical IT pain point."

CA's BrightStor solutions help customers leverage their storage infrastructure investments and protect critical data assets. Managers can make informed decisions about resource allocation based on the business value of data assets and operational requirements. They can also optimize the efficiency of backup and restore processes and enhance staff productivity.

"We are excited about the synergies between ARKIVIO AUTO-STOR and CA's BrightStor line," said Giovanni Paliska, president and CEO of Arkivio. "This agreement will give a broader range of customers the opportunity to take advantage of our multi-platform ILM technology."
