ADTRAN Upgrades Virtual WLAN Solution To Address Fast Growing Cloud-Hosted WLAN And Mobile Offload Services Markets

Upgrade provides MSPs with new revenue opportunities and enterprises with flexibility to best meet business needs

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ADTRAN®, Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN) announces a major upgrade of its award-winning Bluesocket virtual WLAN (vWLAN®) software which consolidates and adds key features targeted towards the growing market for hosted WLAN and mobile offload services. The upgraded solution helps Managed Service Providers (MSPs) leverage Bluesocket vWLAN to offer resale, managed WLAN or cloud-hosted WLAN services to small, medium and large enterprise customers, while providing enterprises the flexibility to migrate between deployment options. The enhanced vWLAN solution also provides integrated support for mobile offload services – enabling MSPs to generate additional revenue from existing WLAN deployments. In addition to these features, the new vWLAN solution introduces capabilities for large multi-national corporations to support subsidiaries as distinct business entities with a complete separation of administrator access-rights, users and policies.

“BYOD adoption is increasing across enterprises resulting in a scramble to upgrade wireless networks. At the same time IT budgets are being squeezed due to economic uncertainty”

Built around the concept of flexibility, the new version of ADTRAN’s Bluesocket vWLAN now enables both enterprises and MSPs to address various business models and network needs all from one virtualized platform. MSPs can better target the fast growing enterprise WLAN market with multiple options – resale, managed services or cloud-hosted WLAN services. At the same time, the Bluesocket vWLAN architecture offers enterprises the flexibility to choose the WLAN deployment model that enables them to scale service as their business dictates, as well as to smoothly migrate between the models.

“BYOD adoption is increasing across enterprises resulting in a scramble to upgrade wireless networks. At the same time IT budgets are being squeezed due to economic uncertainty,” said Mads Lillelund, general manager of ADTRAN’s Bluesocket Business Group. “The new enhancements in our Bluesocket vWLAN solution are breaking the current silos of resale and hosted WLAN with a solution that offers enterprises the flexibility to choose the deployment options that best meets their business needs. At the same time, the flexibility of the solution allows MSPs to utilize the same vWLAN software to offer multiple, revenue generating services – resale, managed or hosted WLAN services, as well as mobile offload services to maximize revenues by partnering with wireless carriers.”

The Bluesocket vWLAN’s unique architecture separates the control and management plane from the data path, and moves it to the cloud. By centralizing the control in addition to the management, network administrators have a complete view and control of the entire network, not limited to a subset of managed devices.

The latest release of Bluesocket vWLAN solution includes:

  • Enhancements to the industry’s only hypervisor-based WLAN platform supporting a multi-tenant function
  • Support for multiple administrators with multiple levels of access control rights
  • Enhanced High-Availability features for improved system reliability
  • Increased storage time for user statistics up to 30 days
  • Enhanced reporting and alerts
  • Support for the expanded portfolio of Bluesocket 1900 series Access Points
  • Access to the administrator portal from any mobile device including iOS, Android and Windows-based devices, and
  • Support for VMware ESXi 5.x.
