Access Control And Video Surveillance News From December 2014

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in access control and video surveillance news, Viscount Systems unveils a Web-based access control appliance, D-Link offers a new all-in-one NVR, VIVOTEK introduces two network cameras, and WavestoreUSA announces updates to its video management software, and Genetec presents new automated license plate recognition cameras.

Viscount Systems Unveils Web-Based Access Control Appliance

Viscount Systems released the Freedom CUBE, a Web-based access control network appliance for the small-to-medium-enterprise environment of 64 doors or less. The appliance features emergency mustering, elevator control, video integration, and I/O configuration. It is deployable as a bundled appliance and is preloaded with Viscount’s Freedom access control software. The appliance has built-in IT security features, and there are no proprietary control panels — each card reader is an IP device on the network and is operated through a Web interface.

D-Link Offers All-In-One NVR

D-Link now offers the mydlink (DNR-312L) network video recorder with HDMI (high-definition multimedia interface). It allows users to view, record, play back, and export up to nine D-Link network cameras. The network video recorder (NVR) features continuous, scheduled, or motion-detection recording and pan/tilt/zoom controls for PTZ cameras. Its single storage bay accepts a hard drive of up to 6 TB, and a scheduled backup function allows one or more camera recordings to be backed up to a USB drive, network storage, or an FTP (file transfer protocol) server. Mydlink cloud service is included. The NVR has three viewing options: Web browser, mobile app, and the native HDMI port. Functions include camera search, e-map support, and on-screen display of date, time, camera name, frame rate, and bandwidth. Additionally, it supports both a high- and a low-resolution streaming profile, simultaneously recorded and available for playback.

VIVOTEK Introduces Two Network Cameras

VIVOTEK announced the availability of a new bullet network camera and a new fixed-dome network camera. The IB8367 bullet camera is designed for outdoor environments, outfitted with an IP66-rated housing for dust and water resistance. It features a 2-MP CMOS (complementary metal oxide silicon) sensor enabling resolution of 1920 x 1080 at 30 frames per second. Built-in IR (infrared) LEDs provide illumination for clear viewing up to 30 meters, even in dark surroundings. The camera also has Smart IR technology, automatically adjusting the IR lighting intensity to avoid overexposure, and WDR (wide dynamic range) enhancement, providing visibility in extremely bright and dark settings. VIVOTEK’s FD8367-V fixed-dome network camera is also designed for the outdoors and equipped with a 2-MP sensor. In addition, it features a 2.8-12 mm varifocal, p-iris lens and a removable IR-cut filter. This camera includes VIVOTEK’s Smart IR and 3-Dimensional Noise Reduction technologies.

WavestoreUSA Updates VMS

WavestoreUSA introduces V5.48, the latest version of its V5 Video Management Software (VMS) suite. Features of the new version include new vector PTZ (pan/tilt/zoom) joystick commands, an enhanced algorithm for smoother live video and playback, and improved logging of IP camera streaming failures and handling of Stretch capture card closedown. The software includes a new “interactive mode” for hardware detection so users can choose to ignore a capture device.  It also includes improved Ganz camera integration including addition of new cameras to the drop-down list and event integration.

Genetec Presents Next Generation Of Automated License Plate Recognition Cameras

Genetec announced the next generation of its IP-based automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) cameras, the AutoVu Sharp and AutoVu SharpX. The new cameras enable the concurrent detection of license plates from a greater variety of models, capturing license plates from different states or countries on the same system. Users can also access new vehicle-behavior and characteristic analytics. The cameras enable deployment of up to four high-resolution ALPR cameras on a vehicle, for a nearly 360-degree view, and users can deploy up to four high-resolution SharpX camera units on a single processing unit.
