Access Control And Video Surveillance News

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in Access Control and Video Surveillance news, WavestoreUSA offers a new Network Video Server, Milestone Systems Releases a new VMS suite, and Samsung announces a new educational resource for channel partners.

WavestoreUSA Adds Network Video Server To Series

WavestoreUSA announces the release of a newly redesigned E-Series, including the introduction of the WS-E4S Network Video Server (NVS). The NVS provides up to 96 TB of storage, accommodating up to 24 3.5-inch hot-swappable hard drives. It records as many as 128 channels simultaneously from an IP/megapixel configuration, with a choice of H.264, MxPEG, MPEG-4, and MJPEG compression. Audio recording is also supported. The servers are designed with optional RAID-5 or RAID-6 configurations and can support iSCSI (Internet small computer system interface) external storage for increased reliability and storage consolidation. The NVS is preloaded with the latest version of Wavestore V5 Video Management Software (VMS) to allow for direct or remote connectivity, and it features system diagnostics and remote maintenance access.

Milestone Systems Releases New VMS Suite

Milestone Systems has released the Milestone XProtect 2014 VMS (video management software) product suite. With this release, the company introduces a framework that complies with ONVIF (Open Network Video Interface Forum) for handling and storing video-related metadata for its XProtect Corporate 2014 and Expert 2014 versions. The framework enables integration, including connecting with various types of IT systems and supporting cameras with built-in analytics. Video handling features in the new release include Smart Search, which uses metadata generated during motion detection analysis; Evidence Lock, which secures video for investigations by extending the retention time; and Storyboard, which turns video into evidence by documenting a sequence of events. This new version also includes XProtect Access Control Module 2014, which enables integrating different access control systems within the same customer installation. In addition, Milestone Mobile includes Video Push with GPS metadata to enable first responders and security personnel to use a smartphone as a mobile camera.

Samsung Creates New Educational Resource For Channel Partners

In a recent upgrade to the training section of the Samsung Techwin America website, the company offers access to its education programs. Included is Samsung’s IP Institute (SIPI), which provides instruction on how to properly select products, design configurations, and install a system. Upon successful completion, participants will receive 12 credits that can be used for industry-recognized certifications, such as those from ASIS International and BICSI. In addition, Samsung’s Technology Showcase (STS) offers participants an in-depth, one-day seminar that focuses on Samsung’s line of core products, as well as new products and technology. Bi-monthly webinars feature topics from the showcase on the first and third Mondays of the month in 45-minute sessions.
