Access Control And Video Surveillance News

Each month, Business Solutions reports news on business in the channel. This month in Access Control And Video Surveillance news, Canon has entered into an agreement to acquire Milestone Systems A/S, and Axis announces several new cameras to its product line.

Canon Acquires Milestone

Imaging solutions provider Canon entered into an agreement to acquire Denmark-based Milestone Systems A/S, a provider of open-platform video management software, via its subsidiary Canon Europa N.V. Canon has identified network video surveillance as a strategic new business area. Bringing Milestone into the Canon Group will significantly enhance Canon’s software capabilities in this sector. As part of the Canon Group, Milestone will be able to accelerate development of new products and use Canon’s business and consumer channels to expand its global market presence. Milestone will continue to provide open-platform solutions to the market, while operating as a stand-alone company within the Canon Group. Following the completion of the acquisition, Milestone’s management will remain in place.

Axis Announces New Cameras

Axis Communications announced the addition of new cameras to its product line:

  • The indoor AXIS Q1615 and outdoor-ready AXIS Q1615-E fixed-network cameras combine new capabilities including wide dynamic range (WDR), electronic image stabilization, and shock detection with Axis technologies such as Lightfinder and HDTV 1080p resolution, as well as Axis’ new WDR — Forensic Capture Technology. These are Axis’ first fixed cameras to provide 60 frames per second in HDTV resolution.
  • The AXIS P39-R Network Camera Series is designed for video surveillance in public transportation and vehicles. These cameras feature an active tampering alarm function that allows for the detection of blocking or spray-painting the camera and are specially adapted to respond quickly to changes in light levels. The use of progressive scan enables the cameras to show moving objects without distortion. Cameras in the series are available in 720p, 1080p, or 1080p with audio in and I/O capabilities.
  • The AXIS M3027-PVE Fixed Dome Network Camera is a five-megapixel IP camera that offers a 360-degree or 180-degree panoramic overview of wide areas. The vandal-resistant, day/night network camera is designed for outdoor use but can also be used indoors. The camera has capacity for intelligent video applications and supports a wide range of video management software including the complementary AXIS Camera Companion for small system surveillance.
  • The AXIS F Network Series, a modular minicamera series, provides discreet surveillance solutions with HDTV 1080p video and WDR. The “divided network camera” concept allows a small sensor unit to be installed discreetly in tight places and the bigger main unit to be placed away from public view. The series includes an AXIS F41 Main Unit and four compatible AXIS F sensor units that are sold separately with different form factors and lens types for different fields of view. The main unit houses the processor, network, power, and SD card slot and other connections and can connect to one AXIS F sensor unit.
