More Of 'The Worst'

Business Solutions, January 2009
As I stated in my article summarizing the 'worst" channel vendor quotes, there were some key categories of comments that emerged. But not all of the comments fit neatly into one of those categories. The remaining miscellaneous comments may offer no direct lessons to be learned, but they sure do give you the impression that there are some very unhappy VARs out there. In fact, if there's any type of underlying theme here, it's a general mistrust of some vendors.

"A bunch of crooks running the company."

"These guys caused so many problems that I almost went out of business."

"The owner is one of the most arrogant people I have met and drove our organization to use a competing product."

"I have issues with companies that go way over the top when setting up terms. I had one company that would not even let us pay with a credit card until they had a photocopy of my drivers license. I don't generally share my personal information when paying with a credit card, so needless to say we did not do business with them.

"I can't rate anyone below zero, so I guess we'll just leave them unrated."

"Try being told that your corporate system expires in August when the system says clearly October and the salesperson then says, 'The date on my system is right, yours is wrong. It is too late to renew, and you will have to buy a new one. Can I take your order?' Ah…no thanks. I never worked with them since."

"ABC Company…(comments not for family viewing)."

"ABC Company has sooo many rules to protect themselves. It's funny, when they were small they bent over backwards. Now that they have lion share of the market, they basically are telling people 'screw you' if you're not an enterprise level business."

"Their rep got lost on her to our first meeting and showed up an hour late...she even had a Garmin in the car telling her where to go and made a wrong turn."

"ABC Company is a vendor that makes me shudder when I know I have to interact with them. I would put them at the top of the list of a vendor that I would do just about anything to avoid."
