Integrated POS System Garners 17-Store Installation

The Miller Group is an Arby's franchisee based in Bloomington, IL that operates 17 restaurants throughout the state. The franchisee was using a point of sale (POS) system that was not meeting its performance needs. The company needed a fully integrated system from the POS to the back office to the corporate office.

After examining solutions from four systems providers, the Miller Group selected Prism Data Systems. Prism had installed systems for the Miller Group's VP of operations when he worked for a different Arby's franchisee. The integrator's previous experience with Arby's was one of the reasons it was awarded the business.

Prism Data Systems configured a solution for the Miller Group consisting of ParTech's POS4XP hardware and Exalt POS software. Prism integrated the POS solution with the back office by installing its Paseo software and Above Store Sendero software integrated at the corporate office. Each system cost about $28,000 per restaurant, depending on the exact configuration. "This POS solution gave the Miller Group full integration of all its applications, something it didn't have before," states Larry Ohls, VP of sales and marketing for Prism Data Systems.

Prism Data Systems' biggest challenge was scheduling the installation around the restaurants' daily operations without negatively affecting sales. As a result, installation at all 17 stores took three months. This installation included four to five days of end user training at each location.

The Miller Group is pleased with the new POS system. "Because of the installation, the Miller Group has more accurate and timely management information to eliminate problems at the restaurant before they affect the operations," says Ohls. Now the franchisee can address labor or cash control issues before they become a significant problem.

The franchisee now subscribes to Prism Data Systems' annual maintenance programs for software upgrades. The Miller Group has since referred Prism Data Systems and its POS system to other Arby's franchisees.
