Integrated POS Solution Helps VAR Earn Business Of Coffee Chain Client

Business Solutions, July 2009
MaryLou’s, a specialty coffee shop chain based in Massachusetts, needed a POS solution that allowed it to transition from electronic cash registers (ECRs) to a modern POS and business management system. After an extensive search, MaryLou’s turned to StationSmart for help. StationSmart is a solutions provider that specializes in custom retail technology, and it has found particular success by establishing strong relationships with several vendors in order to provide the best service for the unique needs of its diverse client base. What swayed MaryLou’s decision to go with StationSmart was its ability to provide and manage all aspects of the project, including POS operations, PC hardware and software, accounting integration, and PC networking.

At the core of its solution was the JPOS Software POS product and POS-X hardware. JPOS was selected due to its easy-touch interface and the vendor’s ability to rapidly customize solutions to meet each customer’s needs. The POS-X XPC600 fanless TouchPC was chosen because it resolved noise, size, and maintenance concerns. The VAR then worked with Datasmith Networks to create a secure corporate network (using SonicWALL products) over the Internet so that all stores and the main office were linked. Once that secure network was established, StationSmart was able to centralize the data from every store. “One of the most important features of the installation is the unique integration to QuickBooks Enterprise Edition,” says Stephen Phaneuf, president of StationSmart. “We were able to automate the accounting process for the stores and main office using that product.” The solutions provider and its partners are now working to refine the solution for use in other retail businesses.
