Increase Sales With Franchise-Specific POS Systems

Business Solutions, November 2005

For four years, Monolith Software Solutions of Charleston, SC has provided YUM! franchisees with headquarters (HQ) tools enabling operational reporting, home office accounting, and payroll integration. The integrator has taken the next step and released a POS system aimed at YUM! Pizza Hut and multibrand franchise operators. Monolith Software teamed with hardware manufacturer Partner Tech USA to deliver a POS solution for dine-in or delivery businesses. Franchise operators are looking for POS systems that can accommodate quicker adjustments to business and have lower support fees and more capabilities. Monolith built a software package that, in most cases, meets those needs and costs the same or less than what operators are currently paying for their legacy systems.

Monolith currently provides service for approximately 750 Pizza Huts nationwide. This exposure and the fact that Monolith executives are experienced restaurant operators have influenced both the integrator's product and perspective. Keeping functionality simple for operators while delivering everything senior management needs to make informed decisions has always been Monolith's primary goal. The original HQ product was built for the frontline operators, not the CFOs or owners. Marketing this perspective was difficult at first, but when frontline users sampled the system, there was substantial demand.

The POS system development followed the same path. A clear interface for the users, coupled with technology that gives franchisees live reporting throughout the day, is only the beginning. Monolith has integrated call center and online ordering capability into the system. Franchisees will be able to train and manage customer service reps in a call center environment to leverage revenue and offer better service than their competitors. Even smaller companies will be able to use existing office space to staff customer service reps on busy weekend nights. These reps can take phone orders from customers who can't get through to their local restaurant because it is busy. The overflow operators will be able to place the order and the customer won't feel the frustration of busy signals or hurried order-takers. For particularly cost-conscious owners, Monolith will be able to integrate new 5500 terminals and RP310 printers from Partner Tech with some existing equipment to get buyers a little more life out of their previous investment. With expenses going up everywhere, Monolith expects to meet its clients' POS needs without breaking their budgets.
