2-D Bar Codes: 2-D Bar Code Creation Now Available From Pegasus Imaging

Pegasus Imaging Corporation, the leader in document imaging technologies, today announces a new 2-D bar code creation edition has been added to its SmartScan Xpress™ Barcode v4 software development kit. Two dimensional PDF417 and DataMatrix bar codes hold more data than 1-D bar codes and will benefit many licensed users of Pegasus technology.

"The release of our newest edition supporting 2-D bar code creation will broaden the appeal of this industry-leading recognition engine," says John Leonard, document imaging specialist at Pegasus Imaging. "We understand how critical workflow automation is to many of our licensed customers. The 2-D write functionality potentially places our bar code technology at the beginning of the document life cycle in addition to the existing archiving and indexing stage. Our customers asked us for 2-D bar code creation and our in-house development team has delivered again."

SmartScan Xpress Barcode v4 is a managed .NET control and COM component that accurately reads and writes common industry 1-D and 2-D bar codes. Customers use this technology within document capture, indexing, archiving, and process automation application development. One benefit of using Pegasus technology is the use of the company's image cleanup technology to increase recognition of noisy, hard-to-read bar codes on scanned documents. A second benefit is the accuracy of Pegasus Imaging's set of mathematical algorithms used in its bar code detection, which extend the process used to refine and verify candidate bar codes. The toolkit finds bar codes located anywhere on a page and reports confidence values for detected bar codes. In addition, configurable speed settings are available to suit various application and budget requirements.

Image input, image output, and image handling is provided to SmartScan Xpress Barcode by the Pegasus Imaging toolkit ImagXpress™. ScanFix® technology is also included to provide advanced preprocess functionality for image cleanup and modification prior to analysis. Depending on customer requirements, multiple technologies such as multi-page TIFF support, ISIS® scanning, advanced document cleanup, full PDF support, ICR, OCR, OMR, forms recognition, and forms processing are all available as add on toolkits.
