For merchants running the no-longer-supported Windows XP operating system, the risk grows more serious every day.

Less than a month before Microsoft’s well-publicized end- of-support date for Windows XP, nearly 30 percent of the world’s estimated 1.5 billion in-service PCs were still running the near-death operating system. (1) That’s approximately 450,000,000 machines. How many of those PCs are serving point of sale duties for small-to-midsized retailers is difficult to ascertain, but the figure undoubtedly reaches into the millions.
