Faced with a complex and fast-evolving threat landscape, organizations across the globe are working to improve the first layer of defense at their facilities. Perimeter security is becoming more of a priority for end users in every vertical; however, today’s security customer is looking for ways to protect their perimeter without breaking the bank.
A Sharper Focus On Perimeter Security
The perimeter security market overall is going through a period of rapid growth. One study suggests adoption of perimeter technologies and components is expected to expand an incredible 39 percent, to a total North American investment of $5.7 billion by 2019.
Part of the increased focus on perimeter security is due to an uptick in federal regulations, which have helped to bring the issue of perimeter security into the limelight. For example, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission is recommending legislation that would require heightened perimeter security at sites that are involved in the operation of the energy grid. Since these facilities are vital to the economy and so many facets of everyday life, the government wants to ensure they are well-protected. Soon, federal law could require oil and gas and other energy providers to meet predetermined criteria for the detection of and response to security threats.
