MSPs And MDM: A Golden Opportunity

Source: Continuum

This article by Steve Ricketts, VP of Marketing at Continuum takes a look at the use of mobile device management (MDM) technologies to better manage the growing bring-your-own-device (BYOD) trend and the value you can provide to customers by offering a managed MDM solution. With hundreds of millions of mobile devices being shipped in 2012 and more than 1 billion mobile devices in circulation today, most employees have their own mobile device (or devices) and want to blur the line between work and personal lives by consolidating their digital activities onto fewer devices.

BYOD is a blessing and a curse for businesses. Employees are, for the first time, willing to purchase their own mobile devices, sparing businesses the burden of paying for expensive mobile data and voice plans. However, employees want to be able to use these devices on the corporate network and for business activities; “they expect the IT department to provide configuration, maintenance and application support.”

Controlling all the new mobile devices on their network is a major challenge for IT departments. Not properly managing devices on the corporate network can hinder employee productivity, compromise data security, damage operational integrity, and violate internal policies and external regulatory compliance. The fragmentation of mobile device operating systems is one of the major sources making it difficult to manage mobile devices on corporate networks.
