Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation Donates $25,000 To Colorado Fire Relief Efforts

HP today announced that the Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation has made a donation of $25,000 for relief efforts resulting from the wildfires in Colorado. The grant will be made to the American Red Cross.

The Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation awards grants for humanitarian relief in communities hit by disaster, matches employee giving, and supports innovative education projects. The Foundation responded to numerous major disasters in 2011, including the Japan earthquake and tsunami; flooding in Thailand, Australia, Brazil and Sri Lanka; drought in East Africa; storm damage in the United States; and earthquakes in New Zealand and Turkey.

“We’re so grateful to the Hewlett-Packard Company Foundation for their support for the devastating wildfires in Colorado,” said Neal Litvack, chief development officer, American Red Cross. “This support is in addition to their contributions as an Annual Disaster Giving Program member, which enable the Red Cross to open shelters, feed and comfort families and help communities take critical steps toward recovery.”

The Foundation is chaired by Henry Gomez, executive vice president and chief communications officer, HP. HP is closely following the Colorado fires, as they are directly affecting some of the company’s employees in the area.

“Our thoughts are with all the families that have fallen victim to this tragedy,” said Gomez. “We are committed to supporting recovery efforts through the American Red Cross.”

The funds donated by the Foundation are intended to support short-term relief as well as help the longer-term reconstruction work needed to recover from the fire.

“The road to recovery will be a long one, and we are working with our customers, partners and employees to provide ongoing support,” said Gomez.

This contribution is in addition to the company’s membership in the Annual Disaster Giving Program, an international and domestic disaster preparedness and response program. The Annual Disaster Giving Program helps build safer communities in the world’s most disaster-prone countries before disasters occur in order to decrease their impact. Activities include building and strengthening early warning systems, eliminating community hazards to reduce the risk and impact of disasters, building the skills of professional responders with trainings and simulations, and helping communities and schools plan and practice for when disasters strike.
