You Can Enhance Patient Care By Automating Paper-Based Processes

Source: EMC Corporation

Healthcare providers face growing challenges to control ever-rising costs without compromising the quality of patient care they are able to provide. For St. John Health System, one way to operate more efficiently was by automating and streamlining its manual, paper-based processes.

St. John is one of the laragest providers in Oklahoma, with more that 4500 employees and over 700 physicians. It's anchored by the St. John Medical Center, a 560-bed regional center including radiology, cardiology, oncology, wellness, women's health, and physical rehabilitation. In addition to the Medical Center, St. John Health System encompasses more than a dozen medical centers, dialysis facilities, primary care offices, and laboratory draw locations throughout the state.

In its search for an automation solution, St. John first focused on improving the routing, approval, and distribution of standard operating procedures (SOPs), as well as many other document-intensive processes. Ultimately, St. John chose an ECM (enterprise content management) platform to automate the end-to-end processes for SOPs. The solution was further extended by an additional application to handle other business documents using a document capture solution for scanning and storing other hard-copy documents.
